Tampering with essential infrastructure Wilson Maputla (34) from Delmore Gardens pleaded not guilty to three charges, including tampering with essential infrastructure, theft and trespassing on May 5 and was found guilty on June 2.

The charges stem from an incident where he cut and removed Prasa copper cable in Boksburg on July 6, 2020. Maputla was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment for count one (tamper/damage/destroying of essential infrastructure), one year in prison for count two (theft) and six years’ imprisonment for count three (trespassing) on July 20. He is also automatically declared unfit to possess a firearm.

Magistrate Shilubhana presided and prosecutor Mooiman represented the state.

Robbery Hlokomelong Otsa (23) from Joe Slovo informal settlement was sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment, of which three years’ imprisonment for five years and declared unfit to possess a firearm on August 3 on a robbery charge.

He pleaded guilty and was found guilty on August 3.

The charge emanates from an incident where Otsa robbed a man of his cellphone to the value of R400 in Reiger Park on February 14, 2020.

Magistrate Shilubhana presided and prosecutor Mooiman represented the state.

House robbery Lubabalo Xabanisa (21) from Boksburg was sentenced to six years in prison and declared unfit to possess a firearm on August 2 for house robbery.

He pleaded guilty and was found guilty on August 2.

On March 7, last year, Xabanisa broke into premises in Plantation and stole two laptops to the value of R11 000.

Magistrate Shilubhana presided and prosecutor Mooiman represented the State.

Contravention of the Immigration Act Wiseman Macheke (38) from Comet was sentenced to three months behind bars on August 3 for being in the country without valid documentation.

The Malawian citizen pleaded guilty and was found guilty of being in contravention of Section 49 (1)(a) of the Immigration Act 13 of 2002 on August 3.

Magistrate Viviers presided and prosecutor Khaliswayo represented the State.

Assault Nthabiseng Khoza (27) from Delmore informal settlement was sentenced to R2 000 fine or 12 months’ imprisonment, wholly suspended for three years and declared unfit to possess a firearm on August 4 for assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Khoza pleaded not guilty and was found guilty as charged on August 4. He punched a woman in the face with his fist in Delmore on September 5, last year.

Magistrate Viviers presided and prosecutor Khaliswayo represented the State.

Malicious damage to property George Antonio Biza (35) from Jerusalem informal settlement was 120 days behind bars and declared unfit to possess a firearm on August 3 for malicious injury to property and resisting arrest.

He pleaded not guilty to both counts on March 18 and was found guilty on August 3.

The charges stem from an incident where Biza peed and spat on a man’s vegetables in Boksburg on September 15, last year.

Magistrate Havenga presided and prosecutor Lingane represented the State.

Abel Earnest Khoza (21) from Germiston informal settlement pleaded guilty to a charge of theft and another charge for being in contravention of Section 49 (1)(a) of the Immigration Act 13 of 2002 on August 3.

The charges emanate from an incident where the Mozambican citizen stole a jackhammer, two angle grinders, a welding machine, two cordless drills, four batteries, a battery charger and a wheelbarrow to the value of R26 999 from a man.

Khoza was sentenced to six months imprisonment, wholly suspended for five years for count one (theft) and 10 days’ imprisonment for count two (contravention of the Immigration Act).

Magistrate Havenga presided and prosecutor Lingane represented the State.

Reckless driving Siyabonga Cyprein Ngcobo (33) from Ramaphosa was sentenced to an R5 000 fine or 15 months’ imprisonment, of which R4 500 or 12 months imprisonment is suspended for three years on August 3 for reckless driving.

He pleaded guilty and was found guilty on August 3.

The charge stems from an incident where he skipped a red robot on Main Reef Road on March 22 while driving a Toyota Quantum.
